Introducing "The Algorithm of Exile": A Structural Blueprint to End Pandemic Denial

Funding "The Algorithm of Exile": A Psychosocial Blueprint to End Pandemic Denial, Medical Gaslighting, and Ableism

Dear friends and supporters,

For the past many years, much of the collective conversation surrounding the ongoing pandemic has remained trapped in an exhausting loop of reactive outrage, cynicism, and moral condemnation. While it is entirely justified to critique institutional failures, systemic ableism, and media complicity, endless outrage alone does not create an exit ramp. Calling out bad actors doesn't explain the true psychological, systemic, and cultural mechanisms that perpetuate widespread denial and structural neglect—nor does it give us the tools required to dismantle them.

I don’t write about these systems purely as an abstract academic exercise. As someone living with Long COVID and who literally lost the ability to exercise, I experience the reality of institutional abandonment and social erasure and exile every day. This lived reality is what drives my work. It isn't just theory to me. It is the daily condition I am determined to diagnose, articulate, and transform.

That is why I took this research directly to one of the most prominent academic stages in the world. Last month at Harvard, I presented "The Algorithm of Exile," a paper that maps the exact psychological architecture, systemic drivers, and institutional unconscious behind modern pandemic denial, structural eugenics, and social abandonment. I explained the precise mechanisms keeping society locked in perpetual suffering, giving us the rigorous, formal language required to challenge the status quo rather than just vent about it:

Right now, this paper is 80% complete. Finalizing the remaining 20% requires dedicated research, synthesis, and formal editing to prepare it as both a published open-access monograph and a foundational piece of my upcoming doctoral work in civilizational psychology and mental health. This paper is the launchpad for a long-term body of scholarship and practice designed to infiltrate, challenge, and reconfigure high-level institutional healthcare, public health, culture, and disability justice.

To bring this project across the finish line, I am framing this effort around a democratic gift economy model. This isn't traditional mutual aid which serves vital immediate needs but rather a collective investment in building the long-term intellectual and strategic tools the COVID aware movement severely lacks. If we reach our campaign funding goal, "The Algorithm of Exile" will be released fully open-access for everyone to read, cite, and deploy. Furthermore, every supporter, starting at just $1, will have their name listed (with consent) on our Grassroots Donor Recognition page to honor those who made this public release possible.

Every contribution directly accelerates the completion and open publication of this work. I invite you to visit our campaign page, learn more about the work through our videos, and pitch in whatever amount reflects your capacity—whether that is $1, $10, $50, or more. If we genuinely want to change the trajectory of public health, institutional memory, and systemic care, we need a language with which to do it.

I am developing and propagating that language. If you want it to exist and accelerate the end of the pandemicene, you can back the campaign and help us release the open-access paper here.

With gratitude and solidarity,
Rayner Jae Liu (he/him)
